The Israeli army has been repeatedly attacking Syrian military targets. Two soldiers were killed in one of those attacks on Sunday.
According to Syrian sources, two Israeli soldiers were killed and three wounded in an attack on a military airport. Military sources and staff at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Sunday evening’s attack near the city of Homs also caused material damage. Syria’s air defense forces shot down several missiles, state news agency SANA reported.
According to the Observatory, the rockets targeted weapons depots of pro-Iranian militias. The civil war country’s eastern military airport has been destroyed in an explosion. As usual in these cases, the Israeli army declined to comment on the report.
Israel is fighting against Iranian influence in Syria
Israel regularly bombards targets in neighboring countries to prevent Iran from expanding its influence there. Tehran supports Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad in the civil war.
Airports in Damascus and Aleppo have also been targeted by Israeli strikes. The context is that pro-Iranian militias, which are fighting the Syrian army, take important equipment from the airport and stockpile weapons there.
