Four federal states want to lift the corona isolation requirement

The obligation of isolation if sick with corona virus? In some parts of the country, this will soon no longer apply.

Anyone who has tested positive for the coronavirus so far must self-isolate at home. Four federal states now want to change this: Baden-W├╝rttemberg, Bavaria, Hesse and Schleswig-Holstein plan to abolish this obligation to sequester. This was stated in a statement by the Ministry of Health of Baden-W├╝rttemberg on Friday. From the perspective of these four countries, the epidemic needs to be tackled differently.

In these countries, the new regulations are due to come into effect “soon”, with the details currently being worked out. For Bavaria, the local health minister Klaus Holtscheck (CSU) named 16 November.

Some other rules and recommendations should take the place of the isolation obligation for those who have tested positive: these conditions, for example, those who have tested positive must wear a mask outside their own home – except outside when a minimum distance of 1.5 meters. can be maintained. Hence it is also planned that medical and nursing facilities who have tested positive will not be allowed to enter as visitors.

Lauterbach has rejected previous requests

The federal government has so far refused to find a common solution, Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holtscheck (CSU) was quoted as saying. “That’s why we’re now taking this important step to responsibly tackle the coronavirus in light of the changing pandemic situation,” said Holetcheck. It is clear that vulnerable groups will continue to be protected.

The four federal states, which have now jointly announced the lifting of isolation obligations, asked Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) in a joint letter at the end of September to confirm that the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) changed its isolation. Recommendations for people infected with Corona. Lauterbach immediately rejected it. Federal Justice Minister Marco Buschmann has already noted that the federal states can override the RKI recommendation.

RKI recommends five days of isolation

According to information from Stuttgart, the federal states “refer, among other things, to the experience of neighboring countries such as Austria, which have protective measures replacing isolation from the summer of 2022”. No negative results are known from these countries. “Decreasing numbers of infections, effective vaccination, basic immunity in more than 90 percent of the population, generally no severe course of the disease, and effective antiviral drugs do not justify taking this action immediately from the point of view of the federal states.”

The RKI recommends that federal states mandate five-day isolation for infected individuals. An urgent recommendation is made not to end self-isolation until a (self-)test is negative. Health and care workers should also have been symptom-free for 48 hours before being tested.
