“No one should be left alone with problems”

The cabinet is discussing the energy crisis. According to Chancellor Scholz, new relief should come “very quickly”. But he left the details open.

At the start of the cabinet meeting, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) reiterated the federal government’s determination to provide quick relief. It’s about putting citizens “in a position to deal with rising prices and inflation so that no one is alone with their problems,” Scholz said.

On energy supplies, he emphasized that Germany is well prepared. Gas storage facilities are already more than 80 percent full.

The chancellor stressed that the government wanted to present decisions on the third relief package “very quickly”, without naming an exact date.
