Gislason plans in goal with Wolff and Klimpke

Alfred Gislason is planning for the Handball World Championships in Poland and Sweden (January 11 to 29) with goalkeepers Andreas Wolff and Till Klimpke.

“Normally, this duo is pretty much scheduled for the World Cup,” said the national coach of the German handball team before the endurance test against Sweden on Thursday (7 p.m.) in Mannheim.

Wolff, who is under contract with the Polish Champions League finalist Vive Kielce, and the Wetzlar Bundesliga professional Klimpke are also in the German squad for the ongoing games in the EHF EURO Cup against European champions Sweden and Olympic bronze medalists Spain on Saturday (8:15 p.m.) in Jaen, Andalusia .

This is “already a sign”, Gislason confirmed in a virtual media event on Wednesday and referred to the short period of time until the World Cup: “We have to try to bring this squad into play as much as possible. We don’t have much time to experiment.” Wolff and Klimpke had already formed the German team at the European Championships in January.

Gislason also praised Patrick Groetzki. The right winger from the Rhein-Neckar Löwen is “in the form of his life”, said the Icelander. Groetzki assessed the situation soberly: “It makes me proud that I was able to perform and that the national coach sees it that way too.”
