“Write that into your brain”

Coach Lucien Favre from OGC Nice caused a scandal. The former Dortmund coach broke off an interview on French television after a 1-1 draw against Olympique Lyon.

“What do you want to tell me with this question?” Favre replied annoyed to questions from a reporter who confronted him about his future and his goals with Nice. Shortly before, his team had to accept the equalizer in the 89th minute.

Favre, who returned to Nice in the summer, added angrily: “There are a lot of things I don’t want to talk about.”

Then the Swiss made a sweeping attack. “I’ve said it before. And I’ll repeat it. But try to write that in your brain,” he said, adding: “We have a two-year project, okay? To be in the Champions League to play. To compete with PSG. Two years isn’t four months, okay? There’s a lot of work to do. And you have to say we’re still missing something.”

The moderator dared to ask another question. “What’s missing?” he replied: “Are players missing?” Too much for Favre, who broke off the interview and mumbled angrily: “I have nothing more to say to you. Good evening.”

Nevertheless, the 65-year-old patted the reporter on the shoulder. He said goodbye with the words: “Thank you, coach. Don’t blame me.”

Nice is currently in ninth place in Ligue 1. Originally, after taking over the British group Ineos three years ago, the club had ambitions to compete with Paris Saint-Germain in the race for the championship. The gap to the star ensemble from Paris is now 21 points.
