Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, winner of the 2022 Ballon d’Or, has revealed that his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to congratulate him on receiving the World’s Best Player trophy.
“No, not yet,” Benzema replied Telefoot when asked to congratulate Ronaldo. The Manchester United striker should have had plenty of time to do so, after all, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to Benzema on 17 October.
Benzema and Ronaldo each joined Real Madrid in 2009 and played together for Los Blancos for nine years until CR7 left in 2018. During this time, Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or four times (2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017), and the now 37-year-old has five awards in total. It was Benzema’s first Ballon d’Or.
Will Ronaldo soon find the time to congratulate Benzema? One does not know. In any case, both stars are now off to the World Cup in Qatar: CR7 and their Portuguese in Group H meet Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea. Benzema and France face Australia, Denmark and Tunisia in Group D.
