Antonio Rüdiger confirms interest from FC Barcelona

National player Antonio Rüdiger has in the AS confirms that FC Barcelona also courted his services before this season. Ironically, however, the defender decided to switch to arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Asked about the interest in him ahead of this season, Ruediger said: “There were several interested teams but I only considered two: Chelsea and Real Madrid.” When asked about Barça, the central defender confirmed: “They knocked, yes. But that wasn’t an issue for me.”

“As I’ve already said, Madrid wasn’t even a dream for me because it just seemed out of reach. You just have to look at the names of the players who played here: Zidane, Ronaldo, Cristiano. The chance to get, with Playing Modric, Kroos or Benzema… It was hard for me to refuse,” Rüdiger continued.

Rüdiger’s contract with Chelsea expired in the summer. The Blues hesitated for a long time with an offer for an extension because of the sanctions against ex-owner Roman Abramovich. It was also reported that a well-known Premier League rival would also have liked to poach him from Chelsea.
