At the end of the press conference on the occasion of the squad nomination for the 2022 World Cup, national coach Hansi Flick remembered the deceased national goalkeeper Robert Enke, who committed suicide on November 10, 13 years ago.
“I think everyone can still remember it. It’s been 13 years now. I was also part of the team at the time and I saw it first-hand. I think it should be remembered because it was an absolute shock for us.” said Flick on the PK.
And further: “I think we should really pay attention to what we all have set ourselves: that we deal with people more consciously, that we always think about it. Today would be such a day to stop and think of Robert. “
Enke suffered from depression and took his own life on November 10, 2009. The former Hannover 96 goalkeeper made eight international appearances for the German national team between 2007 and 2009.
