Soccer record champion Bayern Munich has extended the contract with substitute goalkeeper Sven Ulreich by one year until the summer of 2024. The club announced on Friday afternoon.
“This contract extension expresses the sporting importance that Sven has for our team. He was and is always a support when he is needed, even in the dressing room,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic about the 34-year-old.
Manuel Neuer’s back-up has already made eight appearances this season, making a total of 86 competitive appearances for Bayern. It is “important that he has been very well coordinated with Manuel Neuer in our goalkeeper’s training group for years. Both support each other and we need that in this important position,” said Salihamidzic.
“I’m very happy to stay at Bayern,” said Ulreich, who came to Munich from VfB Stuttgart in 2015, switched to Hamburger SV in 2020 and returned to Bayern in the summer of 2021. The cooperation, in particular with national keeper Neuer, “has grown into something special over many years, we are perfectly coordinated and I enjoy my job a lot.”
