Niclas Füllkrug: position, stations, career, family – all information about the national player
As of today, it is clear that Niclas Füllkrug from Werder Bremen will be going to the World Cup in Qatar. This became known at the DFB press conference in which national coach Hansi Flick presented the German 26-man squad.
Niclas Füllkrug: Position
Füllkrug is at home in the centre-forward position, which is quickly noticed by his goal statistics. In the Bundesliga, the 29-year-old currently has ten goals and two assists in just 13 games for the first division promoted team from the North. Only RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku is ahead of him in the scorer list with 12 goals. No wonder that Füllkrug is now allowed to go to Qatar, especially since two strikers, Timo Werner (RB Leipzig) and Lukas Nmecha (VfL Wolfsburg), are injured. However, the Hanoverian is quite inexperienced when it comes to the national team – more precisely, he hasn’t had any experience with the senior team at all as he hasn’t won an international match yet. After all, he scored three goals in nine games in the U20s.

Niclas Füllkrug: stations and career
Füllkrug spent most of his football career with the club he is currently playing for: Werder Bremen. From 2006 to 2011 he went through all Werder youth departments before making the jump to the reserve team. He didn’t play long for them, being promoted to the first team after less than a season. The striker then moved from the north to the south of the country in 2013 when he was loaned out to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, and in 2014 he was signed by 1. FC Nürnberg for €300,000. He then moved to Hannover 96 in 2016, where he played his first minutes in the Bundesliga, before returning to Werder Bremen in 2019.
In 135 second division games, Füllkrug snapped a total of 47 times for Nuremberg, Hanover and Fürth. His statistics in the Bundesliga are similar: 38 goals in 111 games for Werder Bremen and Hannover 96.
Niclas Füllkrug: family
Football has been an integral part of the Füllkrug family for several generations. Niclas’ father Andreas played for his hometown club TuS Ricklingen in Hanover, grandpa Gerd was even a striker for the second division club Arminia Hanover in the 1978/79 season. But Niclas’ sister Anna-Lena is also a footballer, she plays for Hannover 96 in the women’s regional league. They all have one thing in common: “The header game runs in the family,” said the 1.89 meter tall Niclas Füllkrug.
Niclas has a three-year-old daughter named Emilia with his wife Lisa, whom he married in 2016.
