FC Barcelona reportedly want to terminate contracts with Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba in winter

FC Barcelona have started talks with Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba about early contract termination. This is reported by the Spanish sports newspaper Sports.

Accordingly, the Catalans want to dissolve the working papers of the two veterans, which are still valid until 2024, this winter because the duo is no longer the first choice for coach Xavi.

The big problem with this project, however, is once again the finances at Barça: According to the report, Piqué and Alba are still entitled to a total of 145 million euros, an amount that the club is currently unable to pay.

Piqué still gets 80 million euros in outstanding and future salaries, with Alba the sum is 65 million euros. In the talks, Barcelona reportedly want to explore the extent to which the two players would accommodate the club financially.

Sports reports that there are signs of an agreement at Piqué, but not at Alba. The left-back is not interested in a premature separation, but wants to fulfill his contract until 2024 – and thus collect his promised salary.
