Ex-Bayern player Mark van Bommel has been the victim of an armed robbery. The 45-year-old was apparently threatened with a gun in the underground car park of his apartment.

According to a report in the Dutch newspaper newspaper van Antwerpwhich the police later confirmed, an armed man asked the Antwerp coach in his underground car park to get out of the car.

However, Van Bommel fled, hitting a parked car and setting off an alarm. The perpetrator was also put to flight.

According to police information, it is currently assumed that the perpetrator, who is still at large, was after the former Bayern midfielder’s luxury car.

“No one was injured, our teams checked the area but a suspect could not be found,” said police spokesman Wouter Bruyns. The investigation is ongoing.

Van Bommel himself did not want to comment on the incident on Tuesday, but was already back on the training ground. The Dutchman is best known from the Bundesliga for his involvement with FC Bayern. In addition, he coached the VfL Wolfsburg team for a short time in 2021.
