So while the preliminary round is slowly coming to an end, look SPOX forward to the round of 16 and the knockout phase that will begin with it.
When is the round of 16 of the Champions League? Date, appointments, draw
The six-round group stage will end on November 2, 2022. The eight group winners and runners-up then advance to the round of 16. It will be a while before the knockout stage kicks off though, meanwhile the focus shifts to the World Cup in Qatar. The Champions League will then only continue in the new calendar year. The round of 16 first legs will be played on February 14, 15, 21 and 22, 2023, the second legs will be played on March 7, 8, 14 and 15, 2023.
While the games themselves are still a long way off, the draw for the round of 16 will take place much earlier, on 7 November 2022 to be precise. During the event, which starts at 12pm German time and will be held at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland the stage goes, it is drawn which group winner meets which group runner-up. The following also applies to the draw in the round of 16: teams from the same association are not allowed to compete against each other. Logically, a pairing of two teams from the same preliminary round group is not allowed. The group winners have home rights in the second leg of the round of 16.
Before the 5th group match day, five teams have already redeemed their round of 16 tickets:
Bayern Munich (GER)
Club Brugge (BEL)
Manchester City (ENG)
SSC Napoli (ITA)
Real Madrid (ESP)
