Liverpool have suffered another setback in the English Premier League. The team of team manager Jürgen Klopp surprisingly lost 0-1 (0-0) at bottom Nottingham Forest, most recently the Reds had returned to the road to success with victories over Manchester City (1-0) and West Ham United (1-0).
The goal of the day for the outsider was scored by ex-Liverpool player and former Bundesliga professional Taiwo Awoniyi (55th) after a free kick from half field.
“It’s a heavy blow for us,” Klopp commented on the defeat. “We came here to get three points. When you look at the game you think, ‘How could that not have happened?'” continued Klopp.
Liverpool, who have had a poor start to the season, are further behind the international ranks on just 16 points in the table. Nottingham overtook Leicester City and initially left last place.
Casemiro tearfully saves United – Varane off the pitch
Chelsea lost the win against Manchester United late in the top game on Saturday evening. At Stamford Bridge, ManUnited countered a late penalty kick with a goal in added time without the suspended superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and secured a 1-1 (0-0) draw.
Scott McTominay knocked Chelsea’s Armando Broja down from a corner and Jorginho converted the penalty (87′). In injury time, Casemiro (90+4) headed past Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, the ball bounced off the post and went just over the line.
The Blues miss the chance to put themselves four points ahead of Man United, but remain fourth. The German international Kai Havertz was not used at Chelsea.
Another downer for Manchester coach Erik ten Haag was the injury to centre-back Raphael Varane. The France international had to be substituted and left the pitch in tears.
Haaland shoots Man City to victory
Champion Manchester City won 3-1 (2-0) against Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to a brace from star striker Erling Haaland. The Skyblues thus reduce the gap to leaders Arsenal to at least one point until Sunday.
Haaland (22′) only scored after a mistake by Brighton’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, then the Norwegian converted a penalty kick after video evidence (43′) and has already scored 17 goals after eleven games. Leandro Trossard (53′) shortened the lead for the guests, then Kevin de Bruyne (75′) decided the game with a long-range shot that was well worth seeing.
Everton were able to distance themselves from the relegation zone by beating Crystal Palace 3-0 (1-0). Dominic Calvert-Lewin (11′), Anthony Gordon (65′) and Dwight McNeil (85′) scored for team manager Frank Lampard’s side to victory.
