SK Rapid suffered a painful 1-0 home defeat against Austria Klagenfurt. The Hütteldorfer have now lost half of all league games in the current season.
Interim coach Zoran Barisic cannot be satisfied with the performance against Austria Klagenfurt. His team completely slept through the early stages and had Niklas Hedl to thank for the fact that it was only 0-1 at half-time thanks to a goal by Markus Pink after six minutes.
Only from the 30th minute did their own game improve, Ferdy Druijf had a good chance just before the half-time whistle, but that was it. “We completely slept through the first 30 minutes today and didn’t manage to get away from the first third. We didn’t start the home game with the energy you need and weren’t sure of the ball. We not only didn’t accept duels, we didn’t fight them,” criticized Barisic sky his team.
The guests deserved the victory due to the strong first half and intensive defense in the second period. Rapid was clearly better and superior after the break, but failed to make countable opportunities.
Peter Pacult: “The three points are worth their weight in gold”
“We weren’t favorites in that game. Here you come to a stadium where the scenery is great. We are very happy with the result. We played great football in the first 30 minutes and could have made it 2-0. We defended more in the second half. I’m overjoyed because getting three points away from here is of course worth its weight in gold,” said Austria coach Peter Pacult, who once celebrated the championship title with Rapid.
For Barisic, the second half was “much better” but “we didn’t manage to equalize. I wish we could play like we did in the second half right from the start. Part of football is fighting tackles and winning them. At the moment we have an exam to pass and it’s important to keep a cool head. We want to finally get back on the road to success and learn from this game and start every game better from the start.”
Roman Kerschbaum: “We messed it up again at home”
Rapid kicker Roman Kerschbaum was also annoyed about the bankruptcy: “We messed it up again today as a team at home. The coach can’t do anything about it. It hasn’t been the case in the past few weeks that we’ve been on the pitch as a team. It comes from each individual player too little. Every player has to question himself and improve that.”
Rapid is currently in eighth place, while Klagenfurt is fourth. The green-whites are only four points ahead of TSV Hartberg at the bottom of the table and have lost a whopping six of twelve league games. While Austria Klagenfurt is only in demand again next weekend, Hütteldorfer will play against Hartberg on Wednesday.
