Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Eintracht Frankfurt: Bundesliga today in the live ticker

Max Eberl was sporting director at Gladbach from 2008 to early 2022, and now he’s taking over after a break at RB Leipzig. Eberl, who turns 49 on September 21, had a golden touch at Borussia – right? SPOX does the check.

Transfers are only highlighted from 2016. Royal transfers such as Thorgan Hazard, Yann Sommer, Max Kruse, Raffael and Granit Xhaka are therefore omitted. But some bad mistakes (e.g. Luuk de Jong and Josip Drimic) are not processed either.

Season 2016/17: Christoph Kramer (midfielder, came from Bayer Leverkusen for 15 million euros) – grade: 2.

Played as a loan player for the Foals for two years until 2015 and played his way into the world champion squad before moving permanently to Gladbach. It is still used regularly today. Kramer has already represented BMG in over 200 competitive games.

Jannik Vestergaard (defender, came from SV Werder Bremen for 12.5 million euros) – grade: 2.

In 2016, the tall Dane became head of defense and after two successful years (83 competitive games, seven goals) was sold to Southampton FC for a profit of 25 million euros. Active at Leicester City today..

Timothee Kolodziejczak (defender, came from Sevilla FC for 7.5 million euros) – grade: 5.5.

The central defender arrived in winter 2017 and immediately signed a four-year contract. However, he only made one short appearance in the Bundesliga. Less than a year later, the misunderstanding was ended. Today at Saint Etienne.

Laszlo Benes (midfielder, came from MSK Zilina for 2 million euros) – grade: 3.5.

The highly gifted talent never made it beyond the role of supplementary player in Gladbach. Was loaned to Augsburg and switched to HSV in the summer for 1.5 million. Only sporadically used there.

Julio Villalba (forward, came from Cerro Porteno for 1.25 million euros) – grade: 5.

The Paraguayan only made two short appearances during his time in Gladbach due to many injuries. Even a loan to Altach brought nothing. After his contract expired in 2021, he moved to Guayaquil City in Ecuador.

Tobias Strobl (midfielder, came on a free transfer from TSG Hoffenheim) – grade: 3.

Gladbach could always rely on the defensive player for four years. In his last season (2019/20) he hardly got a chance under coach Marco Rose. Now under contract with FC Augsburg.

Mamadou Doucoure (defender, came on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain) – Grade: 5.

The Frenchman is considered a great talent, but he was repeatedly stopped by serious injuries, which is why he only made two short appearances in the Bundesliga. His contract runs until 2024.

Matthias Ginter (defender, came from Borussia Dortmund for 17 million euros) – grade: 1.

Not valued in Dortmund, he developed into one of the strongest central defenders in the league in Gladbach. Of incomprehensible value for the foals for a long time. Will not renew his expiring contract in 2022. Might even change in winter.

Denis Zakaria (midfielder, came from Young Boys Bern for 12 million euros) – grade: 1.

The Swiss, who was still almost a blank slate, advanced to become one of the best players in the league because of his versatility. He will not extend his expiring contract either, which is why a buyer is currently being sought.

Vincenzo Grifo (midfielder, came from SC Freiburg for 6 million euros) – Grade: 4.5.

Due to a capsule injury, he missed the start of the season in 2017 and then never managed to play his way into the first eleven. After one season and 18 brief appearances, he was sold to Hoffenheim for 5.5 million. Today he is back in Freiburg.

Raul Bobadilla (striker, came from FC Augsburg for 2 million euros) – grade: 4.5.

After four successful seasons in Augsburg, he returned to Gladbach in 2017. Due to injury concerns, however, he was unable to continue his first stay. After a year it was over. Today he plays in Paraguay.

Michael Cuisance (midfielder, came from AS Nancy U19 for 250,000 euros) – grade: 2.

Although he never progressed beyond the role of a rotation player, he convinced both Eberl and Bayern, to whom the 21-year-old was worth ten million euros in 2019. A terrific deal for Eberl. Cuisance flopped at Bayern. Today in Venice.

Florian Neuhaus (midfielder, came on a free transfer from TSV 1860 Munich) – grade: 1.5.

Was loaned directly to Düsseldorf, there ascent hero. Also took off at BMG. Since this season with some problems, which is why he recently pressed the bench more often. Nevertheless: A giant jewel that could go for a lot of money.

Reece Oxford (defender, came on a one-year loan from West Ham United) – grade: 4.

The 2017 Bundesliga came at least a year too early for the talented English centre-back. Nevertheless, he came to eight competitive appearances. There was no firm commitment. He now plays for Augsburg.

Alassane Plea (forward, came for 23 million from OGC Nice) – grade: 2.

The Frenchman hit like a bomb in 2018 (15 competitive goals). Another strong season followed with 20 points in the Bundesliga. However, he has been struggling for almost 1.5 years. In the current season only with 3 goals in 22 games.

Andreas Poulsen (defender, came from FC Midtjylland for 4.5 million euros) – grade: 5.

The 22-year-old never made it to the pros. In the summer we went back to Gladbach via the Austria Vienna rental station. But it didn’t play a role in Adi Hütter’s plans, which is why it went to Ingolstadt.

Michael Lang (defender, came from FC Basel for 2.8 million euros) – grade: 4.5.

The right-back made 17 Bundesliga appearances in his first season in 2018, but he never got beyond the role of backup. Nothing changed when he was loaned to Bremen. Back in Basel since the summer.

Keanan Bennetts (midfielder, came from Tottenham Hotspur for 2.25 million euros) – grade: 4.5.

Could never assert itself with the professionals and mostly played for the amateurs in the regional league. His susceptibility to injury also played a role. He returned from a loan from English third division club Ipswich Town in the summer.

Torben Müsel (midfielder, came on a free transfer from 1. FC Kaiserslautern) – Grade: 4.5.

The young offensive talent showed good performances in the regional league after his move in 2018. He was to be built up slowly until a serious knee injury stopped him. His contract was extended anyway.

Stefan Lainer (defender, came from Red Bull Salzburg for 12.5 million euros) – grade: 2.

The right-back followed ex-coach Rose from Salzburg to Gladbach. The Austrian fulfills his defensive work across the board and is getting better and better in attack. An absolute fighting pig and evergreen and a good grip by Eberl.

Breel Embolo (striker, came from FC Schalke 04 for 11 million euros) – grade: 3.

Like at Schalke, the Swiss is a piñata. Some days he can decide games single-handedly, other days he completely disappears. In his first season he scored 16 points, in this season he currently has eight after 17 games.

Marcus Thuram (forward, came from EA Guingamp for 9 million euros) – grade: 2.5.

The son of world champion Lilian Thuram caused a stir in his first season (14 goals, nine assists). In the second year it was already weaker, in the current season he has completely disappeared. In 14 games still without any goal participation.

Ramy Bensebaini (defender, came from Stade Rennes for 8 million euros) – grade: 2.

When the left-back is fit, he plays too! The Algerian is not only a banker defensively, his technique means he can also cause a great deal of danger. Nine scorer points in the first BL season speak volumes. This season he is at 5.

Max Grün (goalkeeper, came on a free transfer from SV Darmstadt) – Grade: 4.5.

The 34-year-old never had the chance to play behind regular keeper Yann Sommer, who was never actually injured, and his replacement, Tobias Sippel. In the summer of 2021, the move to Viktoria Aschaffenburg followed.

Kouadio Kone (midfielder, came from Toulouse FC for 9 million euros) – Grade: 2.

The 19-year-old Frenchman is one of the few positive phenomena of the current Borussia season. Stayed in Toulouse after his commitment and only came to Gladbach in the summer. Set in central midfield there since then.

Joe Scally (defender, came from New York City FC for 1.8 million euros) – grade: 2.5.

The 18-year-old American initially gained match practice in the regional league. Then played his way into the first team and the starting XI in preparation. Already has 22 competitive appearances. Could be an absolute stroke of luck.

Hannes Wolf (striker, came from RB Leipzig for 9.5 million euros) – Grade: 5.

The Austrian completed 51 appearances in all competitions, but he was only rarely able to convince. Wolf, who injured his ankle badly in 2019, only scored four goals. Currently loaned to Swansea City.

Valentino Lazaro (midfielder, came from Inter Milan for a loan fee of 1.2 million euros) – grade: 4.

The Austrian missed numerous games due to his injury susceptibility. He often came off the bench or acted as a full-back. Returned to Milan in the summer and was immediately loaned out to Benfica.

Luca Netz (defender, came from Hertha BSC for 2 million euros) – grade: 3.

Bayern wanted him, Eberl got him. Netz came from Berlin’s Hertha and quickly played his way into Coach Hütter’s first eleven. Already stood on the lawn 18 times. He had one goal and three assists. He too has the potential for a coup.

Marvin Friedrich (defender, came from Union Berlin for 5.5 million euros) – Grade Unrated:

Only signed in the current winter transfer window. Should replace the ginter who migrates in the summer. Was on the field for more than 90 minutes in both second half games against Leverkusen and Union – and caused 2 penalties.
