2nd Bundesliga: double pack! Terrence Boyd ends Lautern’s winless streak

Pokalschreck Darmstadt 98 suffered a setback in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. Three days after the cup coup against first division club Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Lilies saved with difficulty a 1:1 (0:1) against Holstein Kiel and have to fear losing the top of the table. 1. FC Kaiserslautern celebrated an away win in a 2-0 (0-0) win against Hansa Rostock.

In Darmstadt, Matthias Bader (72nd) at least ensured that Torsten Lieberknecht’s team, which has now been unbeaten in 14 competitive games, scored a point. However, both SC Paderborn and Hamburger SV can overtake the leaders at the weekend.

Second division top scorer Steven Skrzybski (35th) had put Kiel in the lead with his ninth goal of the season.

In front of 15,000 spectators at Böllenfalltor, Kiel showed courage from the start, had the better chances and was rewarded ten minutes before the break. Skrzybski’s goal was initially disregarded due to an alleged offside position, but after studying the video images the goal still counted. Torsten Lieberknecht’s team pushed for an equalizer in the second half and were rewarded by Bader’s goal from a tight angle.

FCK benefited in Rostock from a major blunder by the hitherto strong goalkeeper Markus Kolke, who let an actually harmless header from Lautern’s striker Terrence Boyd slip through his hands and legs after a corner (67′). The former US international also scored the second goal (82nd).

Promoted Kaiserslautern is now seventh in the table with 19 points, at least until Sunday. FCK had previously suffered six draws in a row and finally one defeat in seven games.
