Lionel Messi names Brazil and France as his World Cup favorites

Lionel Messi sees record world champions Brazil and defending champions France as the top favorites for the World Cup finals in Qatar.

When asked about the most promising candidates for the title, the Argentine agreed DIRECTIVE Sports: “The big names are always in the draw… But if I have to choose, then Brazil and France are the two big contenders to win the World Cup.”

Messi continued: “Both teams have the same group of players for a long time and they are working well. France, apart from the EURO, where they were eliminated early, have some impressive players. There is a clear game idea and consistency in the coaching position. It’s the same with Brazil.”

World Cup in Qatar: Lionel Messi’s last chance

On the other hand, Messi did not name his Albiceleste, who has been playing well for months. Argentina is now unbeaten in 35 games and last year won the Copa America. The South Americans meet Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland in Group C at the World Cup.

For Messi it is the last chance to win the world title. The 35-year-old announced a few weeks ago that the finals, which start in November, will be his last. In 2014, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and his Argentines narrowly lost to Germany in the final.
