After the happy 2-0 win in the second round of the DFB Cup against Hannover 96, Borussia Dortmund thanks the outstanding goalkeeper Gregor Kobel – and talks about the recent public criticism of Mats Hummels’ BVB game.
“We had Gregor Kobel in goal,” said Emre Can sky when asked why BVB was able to win against Lower Saxony. “We were lucky today. It wasn’t a good game from us. Respect to Hannover 96 for the way they played today.”
Kobel also paid tribute to the second division side: “They were very aggressive. It was a typical, dirty cup game. You have to praise your opponent. In the end, it’s not our aim to allow so many chances.”
With numerous strong saves, the Swiss became the man of the evening – and that after he made a serious mistake in the 0: 2 against Union Berlin on Sunday. “I wasn’t necessarily doubly motivated,” said Kobel. “It was a bit in my head, but I tried to go into the game as relaxed as possible. It was a very difficult game, but I’m very happy that I was able to help the team today.”
Can also commented on Dortmund’s weak performances in the recent past: “We don’t do it extra. It’s not like we come on the pitch and intentionally don’t play well. We’re working on it. It was important to win today . We knew that and we did it.”
BVB: Can and Kobel react to Hummel’s criticism
Both Dortmund players was also on the public criticism by Mats Hummels, which he expressed after the 1-1 draw against Sevilla and the bankruptcy against Union. “Everyone is different. I’d rather discuss that internally,” Can said. “But everyone has to know that for themselves. I can’t blame them.”
Kobel said: “I think it needs a good mix. It’s appropriate in the situation we’re in right now. But it’s also important that we address it in the team.”
