Attacking player Diogo Jota from Liverpool threatens to miss participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Portugal.
The 25-year-old had to be substituted shortly before the end of the 1-0 win in the top game against Manchester City on Sunday. A report by The Athletic According to Jota, he has sustained a potentially serious calf injury. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said after the game: “If Diogo stays down, that’s not good.”
Further examinations on Monday should now provide information about how long the Portuguese has to pause due to the injury. Since the World Cup starts on November 20th and therefore in just under five weeks, Jota could fail for the tournament.
The Liverpool star was most recently in Portugal’s starting XI and, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Leao, is one of the great hopes for the World Cup. Jota has scored ten goals in 28 international matches so far.
