SV Darmstadt 98 has ousted Hamburger SV from the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. 1. FC Nürnberg and Eintracht Braunschweig celebrated important victories in the table basement. Arminia Bielefeld conceded the next defeat in Hanover.
Darmstadt won 2-1 (0-1) at Karlsruher SC with a late goal by Phillip Tietz and passed Hamburger SV, who lost the derby at FC St. Pauli 0-3 on Friday.
Arminia Bielefeld, who were relegated to the first division, remains last after a 0: 2 (0: 1) at Hannover 96. 1. FC Nuremberg achieved their first win under new coach Markus Weinzierl with a 1-0 (0-0) win at Fortuna Düsseldorf, while Eintracht Braunschweig is 2-0 (0-0) at 1. FC Magdeburg in six games undefeated.
Darmstadt’s series lasted five games longer. Fabian Schleusener’s (19th) header goal for KSC was countered by Patric Pfeiffer (49th) with the equalizer, Tietz (88th) made the victory perfect. Darmstadt only lost on the first match day in Regensburg.
The guests started sovereign and self-confident, but after the opening goal, Karlsruhe came up trumps with a no-frills offensive game. The 1-0 had solved the tension, Darmstadt had to make great efforts to regain control of the game.
Only a standard situation led to the equalizer, Tobias Kempe served Pfeiffer with a corner kick, who was successful with a header. Kempe prepared an SVD goal for the seventh time this season. Another hit by Pfeiffer with a head (62nd) was disallowed due to handball according to video evidence.
Arminia Bielefeld: Latte is in the way twice
At the other end of the table, Bielefeld suffered their third defeat in a row and have just eight points after twelve games. Cedric Teuchert (4th) and Havard Nielsen (86th) scored in front of 29,200 spectators. As fifth in the table, Hannover is still very close to the promotion places.
Bielefeld pushed for an equalizer for a long time, but was unlucky after two crossbar hits.
Own goal puts Magdeburg on a losing streak
Nuremberg left the 16th place in the table with their victory, Fortuna tried again in vain to catch up with the promotion ranks. The club defended consistently and took on duels with all their might, so the hosts had problems putting on an orderly game. Shortly after the break, Kwadwo Duah (47th) benefited from a defensive error from Düsseldorf when he scored the winning goal.
In Magdeburg, Amara Conde scored an own goal (51st) to score the opening goal for the guests from Braunschweig, who made everything clear through Bryan Henning (90th + 5). The FCM (10 points) slipped to 17th and penultimate place in the table.
Both teams were primarily concerned with securing goals, so an encounter developed without many chances. After two defeats in the last three games, FCM found it difficult to move forward.
