SC Freiburg missed the jump to second place

The soccer players of SC Freiburg missed the leap to second place in the Bundesliga. The Freiburg team lost 2-3 (2-1) at TSG Hoffenheim at the start of the fourth matchday and now, like their opponents, have six points under their belt.

Both teams showed their offensive qualities from the start. But Freiburg got off to a better start and created some good chances at the beginning. “We didn’t start the game well,” Katharina Naschenweng analyzed afterwards Magenta sports. Svenja Folmli (24′) and Lisa Kolb (45′) gave SC the lead twice before the break, Julia Hickelsberger-Fuller equalized in the meantime (28′).

The second half started better for TSG. “In the meantime we have switched to a back three,” said Naschenweng, explaining the better second round. That ensured “more control and possession of the ball”. With increasing playing time and several unsuccessful pressing attempts, Freiburg lacked the strength to step up a gear. Instead, Hoffenheim turned up – and ultimately the game too. In the closing stages, Katharina Naschenweng (79′) and Tine De Caigny (82′) scored to make it 2-2 and 3-2.

“The first half was pretty good from us,” said a disappointed Svenja Fölmli from SC Freiburg: “But the whole second half was far too bad.” We now want to prepare as well as possible for the upcoming game. Then it’s again at home against Bayer 04 Leverkusen for three points in the league (Saturday, 1.30 p.m.). TSG Hoffenheim make a guest appearance at SGS Essen on Sunday (1 p.m.).
