The marriage between record new signing João Félix and Atlético Madrid is apparently facing a dirty divorce. The 22-year-old is said to be massively dissatisfied with the Rojiblancos and wants to leave the club in winter. This is reported by the Spanish newspaper A bola.
Accordingly, the relationship between the offensive player and coach Diego Simeone is irreparably broken. The problems began a year and a half ago when the Portuguese Félix played in pain at the end of the 2020/21 championship season, but is said to have missed the coach’s appreciation for this assignment. A doctor close to the association is said to have even spoken of “bullying”.
In terms of sport, Félix is alternating between the starting XI and the bench this season. The events surrounding the home game against FC Bruges in the Champions League during the week are said to have given him the rest. Simeone sent him on three warm-ups over the course of the second half but didn’t bring him on after all. According to the report, there is “no turning back” for Félix.
In the summer of 2019, Félix moved from Benfica to Spain for the mega sum of 127 million euros, and he is still by far the most expensive newcomer in Atlético’s history. In the past three years, however, he has never really made the final and lasting breakthrough, despite his 47 goals in 122 games for the club.
In the summer it was reported that FC Bayern had already contacted Atlético to talk about a transfer from Félix. However, the Spaniards were only willing to talk at a three-digit million amount at the time. Instead, Bayern signed Sadio Mané.
