Christopher Vivell will probably become the new technical director after being fired at RB Leipzig

Christopher Vivell was fired as technical director at RB Leipzig on Friday, and now he seems to have reached an agreement with Chelsea. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, only details remain to be clarified.

Vivell will therefore also take on the role of technical director for the Blues, and the signing of the contract is apparently imminent. The deal is set to become official later this week.

The English media recently said that the 35-year-old had traveled to London for talks last week. Oliver Mintzlaff, managing director of RB Leipzig, knew nothing about these negotiations, as he did on Saturday before the 1-1 draw in Mainz sky betrayed.

Mintzlaff cited a lack of trust as the reason for Vivell’s dismissal from RB. “The trust wasn’t there anymore, and then we just acted consistently and released him. Chris has certainly done a great job in the last two years, but in the end things didn’t fit anymore, and then we made this decision with full conviction met.”

In any case, the signs at Leipzig and Vivell were pointing to separation by summer 2023 at the latest, before that he should have trained the new managing director Sport Max Eberl. But now he will probably move to London immediately.

The post of technical director at Chelsea has been vacant since the departure of long-time sporting director Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech. According to Romano, there will not be a new sports director alongside Vivell for the time being.
