In less than two months, the 2022 World Cup will start in Qatar. Training camps, friendlies, schedule, arrival, squad announcements – here you will find the most important information about the DFB preparation for the big tournament.
The group games of the Nations League are over, the German national team did not make it into the Final Four, but can now finally focus on the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in winter for the first time. The host country is the Gulf State of Qatar.

The big event will open on November 20th at the al-Bayt Stadium in Al Khour with the duel between Qatar and Ecuador, the final will take place on December 18th. The DFB team will start the tournament against Japan on November 23rd. Other opponents in Group E are Costa Rica and Spain.
So there are almost two months left until the start of the World Cup. In the following, SPOX explains the process up to then and what is on the agenda during the DFB preparation.

As is customary before World Championships, a training camp will also be held this time to prepare for the tournament. The German national team pitches this in the Sultan Qaboos Sports Center in Muscat, not far from Qatar in Oman. It starts on November 14th and ends on November 18th. Before that, a hotel in Dubai had been requested, but in the end the German Football Association (DFB) decided on neighboring Oman. “We don’t have much time. The players come from ongoing Bundesliga matches and it was important to us that they can acclimate to the World Cup region,” said DFB Managing Director Oliver Bierhoff.

During the training camp, the team of national coach Hansi Flick will play the only friendly before the World Cup against Oman on November 16th.

Not long after the end of the training camp, the German team then sets out on a journey to Qatar, more precisely to Al-Ruwais, where the luxurious Zulal Wellness Resort is located, where the Germans will spend their time during the World Cup.

The squad announcement for the World Cup takes place in several steps. First, Hansi Flick has to nominate up to 50 players for the preselection. According to the picture until October 21st, but the giant squad will not be published. The 50 players must be pre-registered with FIFA because of the tight schedule for visas and doping controls.
The final World Cup squad, which should then only contain 26 men, will be announced shortly before the last Bundesliga matchday before the World Cup break, i.e. before November 11th.
