Defender Jules Koundé has announced his rejection of Chelsea FC and named coach Xavi as the main reason for his move from Sevilla FC to FC Barcelona.
“I have with [Thomas] Tuchel and I also had the feeling that he wanted me to come – but I just liked the conversation with Xavi better,” said the Frenchman L’Equipe. “We mainly talked about football. I felt a strong conviction, he knew a lot about me, my game and my qualities.”
The Catalans’ style of play has also been convincing since Xavis took office. “We were 15 points ahead with Sevilla in the middle of the season, then Barça had an excellent second half under Xavi. I’ve seen the team play a lot, I’ve seen the changes they’ve made and the direction they’ve gone,” explained Koundé and followed up: “I liked it!”
Barcelona put 50 million euros on the table for the 23-year-old after Chelsea had long been considered a favorite for a transfer. The defender has already had three assists in five competitive games for the Blaugrana.
