2nd league – 1. FC Kaiserslautern gives up victory after catching up

Darmstadt 98 is in danger of losing the connection to the direct promotion ranks in the 2nd Bundesliga due to another late setback. Torsten Lieberknecht’s team couldn’t get past the 3:3 (1:0) against the unpleasant promoted team 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

With that, the lilies occupy fourth place, but the gap to leaders SC Paderborn grew to four points. Hamburger SV is three points ahead.

Tobias Kempe (45′ + 2′) and Philipp Tietz (49′) provided a supposedly reassuring lead, but substitutes Kenny Prince Redondo (74’/87′) and Mike Wunderlich (77′, penalty kick) prevented the third away win in a row . Aaron Seydel (90+1) saved Darmstadt at least one point.

Overall, the Lilien have been unbeaten for seven games, but dropped points late in the game, as they did in the 1-1 draw against Bielefeld last week. Lautern remains on target with a place in the first half of the table.

FCK started energetically on the usual atmospheric Betzenberg, Marlon Ritter (3rd) and Philipp Hercher (24th) both failed because of the brilliant Marcel shoes. After initial difficulties, Darmstadt was able to balance the game – and accepted a penalty kick. Andreas Luthe had to slip away after a short return pass from Jean Zimmer 98 captain Fabian Holland.

After the change, Tietz followed up with the first attempt from a distance, before Redondo and Wunderlich answered twice with three goals relatively out of nowhere. Seydel then saved the guests in the Fritz Walter Stadium.

2nd league: Magdeburg celebrates late victory

1. FC Magdeburg won the basement duel. The newly promoted team won 2-1 (1-1) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Sunday and celebrated their second win of the season. While the FCM left the relegation zone and climbed to 15th place, Fürth is at the bottom with four points.

After the lead by debutant Cristiano Piccini (38th), Damian Michalski (42nd) gave the Fürth team a quick equalizer. Moritz-Broni Kwarteng (86th) made the late decision.

Magdeburg got off to a better start and were initially the more active team. Amara Conde’s standards created danger. The hosts rarely found a way through in a playful way, but the former Italian international Piccini then rewarded Magdeburg. But the joy was short-lived. Michalski scored from a corner.

Even after the break, the duel remained competitive, but at a manageable level. Joker Tatsuya Ito livened up the Magdeburg game: first the Japanese failed (66′), then Conde only hit the crossbar (73′) after Ito’s preliminary work. Ito prepared the second goal.

2nd league: Next damper for St. Pauli

St. Pauli, on the other hand, had to take another setback. The team coached by Timo Schultz only drew 1-1 (1-0) against SV Sandhausen and have now been waiting for a win for four games.

Jackson Irvine (38′) gave Hamburg, who had clearly been in the lead for a long time, a header, but the equalizer from former HSV professional David Kinsombi (71′) made the hosts long-faced.

Sandhausen, meanwhile, celebrated the first point win in the fourth away game. Even if Christian Kinsombi hit the post in the 80th minute – for the team of coach Alois Schwartz it was no longer enough for the first win after four games without three points.

St. Pauli dictated what happened at the Millerntor for a long time, but failed to decide the game early. The best chance to make it 2-0 was missed by full-back Manolis Saliakas, whose shot hit the left post. A little later, Kinsombi scored out of nowhere to equalize. St. Pauli’s final offensive was not rewarded.
