Incredible scenes in the Turkish Süper Lig: After the game between Ankaragücü and Besiktas, a spectator jumped from the stands onto the pitch and kicked a player in the center circle. At Besiktas, the shock runs deep.
After a heated game in the Turkish capital, Besiktas won 3-2 against newly promoted Anakragücü. The game was accompanied by some heated duels and scuffles. After the final whistle the whole thing escalated.
A spectator jumped from the stands behind one of the goals onto the field, ran across the field to the center circle and launched a kick in flight. He hit Besiktas midfielder Salih Uçan in the back.
The stunned Besiktas players took on the culprit, midfielder Josef de Souza maltreated the uninvited guest and saw the red card for it.
Former Wolfsburg player Wout Weghorst, who has been with Besiktas since the start of the season, fumed: “It’s not normal and it’s wrong. I like the emotions of the Turkish people and the country very much, but for the league to develop, this has to be punished here today. Josef saw the red card for trying to protect his team-mate. I hope he doesn’t get banned.”
Ankaragücü President Blames Referees
Even Uçan, probably the biggest victim of the attack, couldn’t hide his disbelief: “It all happened behind my back. I think he wanted to go in my direction. If Cenk Tosun hadn’t taken a step, I would have got it completely and it would have been difficult for me injured. I don’t understand why Josef sees the red card. What should he do? Should he say: ‘All right, come on, kick it’?”
Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca apologized to Besiktas but blamed the referee “who gave an exaggerated penalty” and Besiktas youth player Oguzhan Akgun “who insulted us after the game”. Cetin did not explain what this has to do with the fan.
There has been a tense atmosphere between the Ankaragücü and Besiktas fan camps for years. The reason for this is the deep-rooted fan friendship between Ankaragücü and Bursaspor. The fan camps between Bursaspor and Besiktas have been hated for years. Regardless, Besiktas tops the standings after Sunday’s win while Ankaragücü salutes from last place.
