Juve star Paul Pogba has to go under the knife

French world champion Paul Pogba will have surgery on his right knee less than three months before the World Cup in Qatar. This was announced by coach Massimiliano Allegri of Pogba’s new club Juventus Turin on Monday evening.

Due to the injury to the lateral meniscus, there is a question mark over the midfield star’s participation in the World Cup with the “Equipe tricolore”. France will start the tournament against Australia on November 22nd.

Pogba had only returned to Juve training the day before his decision to have an operation on his knee, which had been injured since July. However, the 29-year-old broke off his participation in the exercise session when the measure was continued on Monday, apparently due to excessive complaints. According to Allegris, Pogba then informed his coach about having the operation. How long Pogba has to pause is still unclear.

Pogba had turned down surgery since his pre-season training mishap. Presumably, the superstar, who had returned to the “old lady” from England’s record champions Manchester United, feared for his World Cup chances in the event of an intervention that was already recommended at the time. In order to build up an appealing form despite the need for relief for the knee, Pogba completed a special training course over several weeks in addition to a conservative treatment method.

At the beginning of the week, Juventus had spread confidence for a comeback in Serie A due to Pogba’s return to the training ground. A club spokesman had already announced the Frenchman’s first league appearance for September.
