FC Barcelona and Robert Lewandowski: Curious clause in the contract?

Robert Lewandowski and Barcelona agreed in the summer on a contract that runs until 2026 – apparently with a curious detail.

Like the Spanish radio station Cadena SER reported, FC Barcelona can apparently terminate the contract a year before Robert Lewandowski’s contract expires in 2026 if the center forward plays less than 55 percent of the competitive games in the 2024/25 season.

Should this actually happen, the working paper for the 2025/26 season would then be invalid and Barça would no longer have to pay Lewandowski a salary.

FC Barcelona: Lewandowski with a 52 million contract

With the four-year contract, Lewandowski, should he fulfill it, will probably earn a total of 52 million euros. According to the report, the Pole will receive a net salary from the Catalans of €10m in the 2022/23 season, €13m in the 2023/24 season, €16m in his third season in which the club could terminate his contract (2024 /25) and in a fourth season the 34-year-old would earn a total of 13 million euros.

Lewandowski switched from FC Bayern to the Catalan metropolis for 45 million euros in the summer of this year. So far he has scored five goals in four league games.
