Hertha BSC finally managed their first win in the fifth game. Marco Richter is the focus of the 2-0 win in Augsburg. Meanwhile, the FCA are struggling with their own offensive inability.

Marco Richter happily accepted the congratulations from his Hertha colleagues, and the Berlin fans who had traveled with him celebrated him enthusiastically. A week after the comeback after his testicular cancer, the 24-year-old was back in the spotlight in the Bundesliga: With his first goal since the shock diagnosis in injury time, Richter sealed Hertha BSC’s first win of the season.

“I somehow did the icing on the cake with the goal,” said the striker after the 2-0 (0-0) win at his former club FC Augsburg DAZN: “It’s extremely nice. After a diagnosis like that, you first have to clear your head and start up again. I had a lot of support.”

Almost eight weeks ago, Richter found out about his illness, shortly afterwards the malignant tumor was surgically removed, chemotherapy was not necessary. In the 0-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund a week ago, his first game after testicular tumor surgery, the crossbar prevented his first Bundesliga goal since December 2021.

“We’re happy that Marco got through everything well and is back with us,” said captain Marvin Plattenhardt, “he’s an important player.” With his goal (90′ + 3′), Richter eliminated the last doubts about Hertha’s first win in the fifth game, Dodi Lukebakio had scored the opening goal (57′). The Berliners have now overtaken FCA, who have already suffered their fourth defeat, with four points.
