The planned change from Cristiano Ronaldo was not realized on Deadline Day either, the superstar is still under contract with Manchester United even after the transfer deadline in the top leagues. Most recently, SSC Napoli was considered a possible buyer via loan business, in return – so it was said – Victor Osimhen could have switched to England. But the deal ultimately failed due to the financial framework.
As Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno now reported that the terms proposed by United for Napoli were unacceptable. The English record champions would have offered 80 million euros for Osimhen, while Ronaldo’s annual salary of 30 million euros would have been paid half by the two clubs.
For Napoli, however, a deal would only have been acceptable if United had continued to pay most of the 37-year-old’s salary.
In any case, according to the report, there were no direct negotiations between the clubs, instead all talks took place between Napoli and Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes. This was also confirmed by Napoli director Cristiano Guintoli this week. “We have good talks with Jorge Mendes but there has never been anything concrete between Napoli and Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Guintoli.
Ronaldo’s contract with United runs until next summer. Most recently, he was no longer part of the regular formation with new coach Erik ten Hag.
