1899 Hoffenheim 1-0: Dortmund lead with a taste

At the start of the 5th matchday, Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 (1-0) against 1899 Hoffenheim after a convincing performance and temporarily took the lead in the Bundesliga. However, BVB had to complain about losses again.

  • In front of 79,300 spectators and therefore not completely sold out, Marco Reus (16th) scored the goal of the evening for BVB.
  • Raphael Guerreiro (ill), Karim Adeyemi (toe injury) and Mahmoud Dahoud (shoulder injury) were all out at BVB.
  • Before the game, Sebastian Kehl and Edin Terzic announced that Dahoud needed surgery and would be out until November. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was also injured during the game. More about this here!
  • Terzic and his players highlighted the ability to win close games after the game. Here are the votes
  • Curious: BVB has not lost 33 Bundesliga home games on Friday in a row.

BVB – 1899 Hoffenheim: The analysis

After BVB increasingly relied on crosses in the guest game against Hertha BSC to stage Anthony Modeste, against Hoffenheim it was again a lot about combinations and even with a very active participation of Modeste, who opened up good spaces as a “wall”. The one-touch attack before 1-0 was a prime example. The Frenchman served as a “winger” almost 2-0 through Bynoe-Gittens.

1899 Hoffenheim tried to switch quickly after winning the ball and quickly find the depth with vertical passes. However, the guests from Kraichgau had a problem with BVB’s strong presence in the duels, in which some promising balls were lost in the first round. So Hoffenheim lost more and more access and finally the structure in their own game.

Andre Breitenreiter made three substitutions during the break and mainly strengthened the center with Rudy and Damar. The result: better distribution of roles. Rudy protected as a clear six, Damar and Prömel as a double eight in front with more freedom of movement in the depths, especially Damar pushed into the interfaces significantly more than his predecessors. But that didn’t really result in a goal threat.

Continuing a trend from last week, Dortmund committed a number of tactical fouls when Hoffenheim attempted to break into dangerous areas, slowing down the visitors’ attacks. Shortcoming at BVB: The weak exploitation of chances again.
