Sturm Graz strikes again on the transfer market: The Grazers sign the Swiss national striker Albian Ajeti – he should now score the goals in the SK Sturm attack.
On Tuesday, SK Sturm committed offensive man William Böving (19) from FC Copenhagen for 2.2 million euros, on Wednesday the Styrians strike again: Albian Ajeti comes on loan from Celtic Glasgow, SK Sturm has a purchase option of 2.5 million Euro.
The 25-year-old scored 43 goals in 96 games for FC Basel and prepared 21 more goals. In the summer of 2019, the eleven-time Swiss national player switched to West Ham in the Premier League for 11.3 million euros. His career began to falter in London, he failed to score in twelve appearances. Ajeti moved on to Celtic in the summer of 2020 for 5.5 million euros, for the Scots he scored nine times in 48 games – including five assists.
“The talks with SK Sturm Graz, Andreas Schicker and coach Christian Ilzer immediately convinced me and immediately gave me the feeling that I was in the right place at the right time. Sturm Graz is a big club with a great tradition and I’m very happy to be able to play in Graz in the future. I want to contribute my qualities and my experience as quickly as possible and thus help the team both in the championship and in the upcoming group phase of the Europa League,” says Ajeti about his move to Graz.
Schicker: “I am completely convinced of its quality”
“I’ve been following Albian’s career for years and I’m completely convinced of his quality – now there’s also the possibility of a commitment. His CV and experience speak for themselves. Albian is extremely quick to act, strong in the header, has a nose for goals and generally brings Qualities that will be good for our game. After a difficult year in Glasgow for him personally, he gave me a very clear signal that he wanted to get back to full swing at SK Sturm,” said Sturm Managing Director Andreas Schicker in a broadcast.
Most recently, SK Sturm have been linked to Red Bull Salzburg’s Roko Simic and Genoa’s ex-Grazer Kelvin Yeboah. The choice now fell on Ajeti, who wants to get his career going again with Sturm.
With Luca Kronberger, SK Sturm is lending an offensive player to SV Ried. The 20-year-old U21 team player moved from Admira to Mur in January and made eight Bundesliga appearances for the Black and Whites in the spring.
