Zirkzee and Vidovic leave the club

Bayern Munich is thinning out its luxury squad at the end of the transfer period. The record German soccer champion is giving away striker Joshua Zirkzee, as well as offensive player Gabriel Vidovic and defender Bright Arrey-Mbi, each on loan for a year.

Dutch U21 international Zirkzee is moving to FC Bologna in Italy’s Serie A, where he has been given a four-year contract. Bayern, who are set to receive a transfer fee of 8.5 million euros, have a buyback option for the 21-year-old. Zirkzee made 17 Bundesliga appearances in Munich (four goals).

The 18-year-old talent Gabriel Vidovic goes to the Dutch first division club Vitesse Arnhem. Vidovic has played for FC Bayern since the U15s and has made four appearances for the record champions so far. The attacking player made his debut for Croatia’s U21s last year.

Arrey-Mbi, last loaned out to 1. FC Köln, joins second division side Hannover 96. The 19-year-old junior national player played a professional game for Munich.

Bayern continue to see “great potential” and a “very interesting player” in Zirkzee, as sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic emphasized. “We will follow his development in Bologna.”

Vidovic “proved with his good performances in preparation that he is rightly in our professional squad”. In Arnhem, however, he has “greater chances of playing regularly,” said Salihamidzic. The same applies to Arrey-Mbi, who “needs games at a higher level than before for his further development”.
