Chelsea are negotiating with RB Leipzig to change defender Josko Gvardiol. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the clubs are in advanced talks.
Chelsea are said to have offered RB €90m for Gvardiol, according to Romano. It is also being discussed that the central defender will remain in Leipzig until 2023 after his possible transfer to London. Further negotiations are to follow.
According to information from SPOX and GOAL Chelsea first showed interest in Gvardiol in May. The 20-year-old is Thomas Tuchel’s dream player for the newly formed Chelsea Defence. With Andreas Christensen (FC Barcelona) and Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), two well-known central defenders left the Blues. So far, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli has been the only new defender for Central.
Gvardiol is under contract with the DFB Cup winners until 2026. A few weeks ago, the Croatian was also linked with Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester City. Gvardiol switched to the Saxons from Dinamo Zagreb as Dayot Upamecano’s successor for around 19 million euros last summer.
In 2021/22 he appeared in 46 games for RB and delivered five points. Gvardiol played all four of Leipzig’s Bundesliga games in the new season, but never played the full distance.
