“Didn’t really want to go up with Werder”

Werder Bremen’s midfielder Leonardo Bittencourt has admitted in retrospect that after being relegated to the Bundesliga a year ago, immediate promotion with the Hanseatic League was not his top priority. “If I hadn’t injured my knee, I probably would have found a new club,” said the 28-year-old DAZN-Podcast.

However, due to an inner ligament injury, Bittencourt was only able to start the season in mid-October – six weeks after the transfer window closed.

Ultimately, the former U21 international has no regrets: “We get along so well as a team that we can say our opinions to each other’s faces without offending anyone.”
